Retro re-make, Surfoplane Surf Mat. Inflated Rubber Mat designed Dr Ernest Smithers. Era started in 1933 until Smithers died in 1976, about the same time manufacture of the SurfOplane ended. In 2001, three Newcastle businessmen bought the rights and manufacturing commenced again. This SurfOPlane is from that 2001 range. You cannot get these any more. In excellent condition and a super rare find with the original carry bag, two repair patches and strap. In the almost 20 years we have been selling collectible surf items, we have never seen one of these in it’s original carry bag! Only been used once, then it was packed away for 22 years. Still holds air. You can faintly make out the number “4436” on it. This is a true investment piece and an incredible piece of history.
